Description: The Avani Kalutara Resort is set where the river meets the ocean. Behind the hotel is the Kalu Ganga River that flows from Sri Pada, almost 160 kms away is the sacred mountain believed to be the footprint of the Buddha. Set in a peaceful area, with fine architecture, activities can be arranged for traditional fishing boat rides, kayaking, swimming and watersports. Located just 44 kms from the city of Colombo and 78 kms from the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Rooms: The Avani Kalutara Resort comprises 99 contemporary rooms and 6 suites, each with tranquil water views. In addition to the earthy-tone decorations, each room has a large balcony. The resort has a distinctive design with breezy open corridors, lush lawns and frangipani garden, the overall result is a laid-back feel.

- A short trip to the neighbouring town of Palataota is a must for a site inspection of Richmond Castle, an exquisite country house in a 42-acre fruit garden estate. Built in 1896 this magnificent hybrid of Indian & British architecture was originally a spice plantation mansion.

- Kalutara is widely recognised as a nature lover's haven; marvel at the white vented drongo, eagles, owls, white-breasted waterhen, Ceylon myna, pigeons, doves and black-hooded oriole swooping overhead.

- Back at the resort, guests have the opportunity to try Yoga at no extra charge under the watchful gaze of our experienced Yoga Instructor once a week overlooking the river.
